Why is it that when people talk about Ephesians 5:22-26 they place a big “IF” in the middle of it? The Bible is clear. A husband shall love his wife to the point of death. A wife shall submit to her husband as he is the head. No “ifs”. “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands. Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,” Ephesians 5 : 22 - 26 ESV

Is the husband exempt from living the wife if she doesn’t submit? If not the logic doesn’t stand the smell test, the truth is both the command to the husband and the wife are not BIBLICALLY contingent on the other upholding their end. The love and the submission are unto God.
