Talofa Lava & warm greetings, o lo’u Igoa o Tasi Lyden Collins, e 23 ou tausaga and I hail from the beautiful villages of Fagalii, Leufisa and Safoku. The light that ignited my passion for Siva Samoa was my sisters Isabella & Vanu Collins uncle Siaosi Iene and aunties Perry & nofo. I grew up around my aunties and uncles who would teach dances for our church functions whether it be a Siva Samoa or a Siva Faaevagalia. Witnessing Siva for the first time at a young age, I remember this overwhelming feeling of needing to know and learn more, even just knowing that I was part of the dance meant alot, though I wasn’t the type to overshare that excitement😂. My sisters Isabella and Vanu, were the ones who helped me come out of my shell, with their words of encouragements, love and advice. It wasn’t till a few years ago I took those loving words and allowed myself to be free from shame and embrace that part of my culture. I had the pleasure of tutoring Verdon College polyfest in 2021 aswel as teaching a set for the Autalavou Katoliko in Letogo, Samoa in 2022. I’ve also had the privilege of teaching Siva sets here and there within my church youth group EFKS IVC. Siva Samoa is my comfort zone, it’s where I feel the most comfortable, safe and confident. To be able to share this passion with you all is an honour and a blessing in one. I give praises and thanks to our Heavenly Father for this beautiful gift. Teaching and educating others out there within the areas of Siva is my way of giving back to our homeland aswell as to keep Samoa alive for the next generation to carry on, for those within the premises of Samoa and those of us who live afar.
