@my.beautiful.ds.journey: She comes over every week. Usually multiple times a week. Not because the adults arranged it. Not because she doesn’t have anyone else to play with. And not because we have the good snacks (aka @jonnypop). She comes over because she wants to. When Hudson was born, I had so much hope for his life, but if I’m honest, friendship was one of the things I was most afraid to hope for. I knew people would be kind to him. He’s easy to love. But kindness and friendship aren’t the same thing. Friendship means someone chooses you, again and again, just because they want to. Parker chooses Hudson every single week. Nobody makes her come over. She has other friends, other things she could be doing. She comes because she genuinely loves hanging out with my Huddie. And here’s the thing…she absolutely sees his differences. Of course she does — Kids always do. She notices he communicates differently, plays differently, is just a little different than the other kids on our street. But she’s not bothered by any of it. Not even a little. She just knows he’s Hudson, and that Hudson is perfect exactly the way he is. Watching this friendship unfold has been one of the greatest joys — and reliefs — of my life. To every parent holding that same quiet fear: keep believing it’s possible. Sometimes the answer to your prayer is a spunky, 6 yr old little girl, who lives just a few doors down the street.
