It’s BAD. I’m a millennial but some of us don’t know either. I went to a law school event and the girls were wearing strapless dresses and like heel sandals like we were going to brunch. I was honestly floored.

The standard I was taught by my corporate career mother and by university was for the most part your work wardrobe and your everyday wardrobe don’t cross often. If you would wear it everyday it’s probably not professional work attire, and if you’d wear it to the office it’s more often than not something you wouldn’t wear out and about on a day off. Yes there’s going to be the odd exception but probably not lol.

People don’t dress nicely for anything anymore, and the only place they have an expectation to dress well is work. Therefore they see any nice clothes as being meant for a professional environment, when in fact there’s different types of nice clothes for different situations.

Please also talk about how trousers are supposed to fit. Because some of these girls on TikTok are indeed wearing work-appropriate trousers — but in a size tight enough that they look like leggings. There’s no shame in wearing the size you actually are instead of what you want to be.

The first Aritzia dress would be perfect if it was longer and with a sweater or blazer over it. I also think we need to address the blazer situation: a tailored blazer looks 10x better and more flattering than an oversized blazer. You can do 1 size up from your actual size for more of a looser, oversized look, but when it starts looking like you borrowed your dad’s blazer for work, it transfers into the sloppy category in a professional or even business casual setting.
