🏗️ "If there is no column beneath the beam, why hasn't it collapsed?" This is one of the most misunderstood concepts in construction. Many people believe that every beam must sit directly on a column to carry load safely. But in some buildings, especially those using load-bearing walls, the wall itself becomes the structural support. The secret is not whether a column is visible. The secret is the load path. When properly designed, the beam transfers its load into the load-bearing wall, the wall transfers the load into the foundation, and the foundation safely distributes it into the soil. In structural engineering: Beam → Wall → Foundation → Soil As long as this load path is continuous and properly designed, the structure can safely carry loads without visible columns beneath every beam support.
