@neuronpond: The "Shower Paradox" is the perfect example of two major neurodivergent struggles colliding: Task Switching and Sensory Regulation. ADHD and AuDHD brains struggle massively with transitions. Breaking inertia to move from a "dry, clothed state" to a "wet, naked state" requires a huge spike of cognitive energy (Executive Function). When your brain is already burned out from masking or working, it simply doesn't have the battery power to initiate that transition. However, once you are in the shower, the warm water acts as a profound sensory regulator. It physically down-regulates your autonomic nervous system, pulling you out of fight-or-flight. Because you likely spend your entire day overstimulated, your brain registers the shower as the only safe place to decompress. To get out, you have to initiate another massive transition back into a high-demand environment. So, your brain just decides to live in the water now. Tips: You have to find ways to regulate your nervous system outside of the bathroom so the trae

I've actually counted and the entire process of having a shower is a minimum of 70 tasks in rapid succession and it's freaking exhausting

It’s also and very importantly, to change a lot on our senses, another texture: wet, another temperature: hot. Then we started and finishing it is another complete sensory change.

I take forever to decide to take a shower, then I chose the clothes, then I actually get in the shower, take about 15 min to shower, then towel dry, then air dry under the fan, then moisturize, then get dressed. The whole process takes an hour. And I do it twice a day. It makes me anxious to even think I have to shower. But I have to do it twice a day or I get stressed about not showering.
