Even if "fair" did.historically just mean white... Tolkien calls the NAZGUL **PALE** and **Black** in the SAME SENTENCE because he uses pale to mean sickly, ominous, and disturbing. WHY would we assume he doesn't treat Fair the same way?

Makes sense, Tolkien couldn’t be racist. After all why would he make all the light skinned/light haired characters (numenorians, rohirrim, high elves) tend to be virtuous and western while "swarthy", "sallow" or dark skinned peoples (southrons, easterlings, haradrim) are aligned with Sauron and coded to be villains.. yeah nothing at all in Tolkiens works to make racists think he’s one of them, at all

they do the same thing with "pale", as if being pale isnt a result of being cold, or sick, or dying, etc etc. (Aragorn, specifically, only ever being described as Pale, right after coming in from riding in the cold rain for hours, soaking wet, hiding from the Wraiths who were hunting him)
