I’m thinking this is a world where ghaster’s plan worked and collected papyrus as a follower, hence egg man. Papyrus is the only character that has connections to eggs that i remember (I need to replay undertale it’s been forever). He is the only one with connections to ghaster but doesn’t act out of the ordinary and has strong feelings of needing to help. I’m betting that he was the helper of ghaster instead of sans in this one. He might have been a therapist for monsters and a frisk hence why Kris only vaguely remembers him but mostly only remembers the eggs papyrus tried to feed them since they don’t know what humans like. Due to them working close together without sans this time I’m betting he performed (yes I’m still working with the theory ghaster gave sans the eye) and used papyrus to create a ‘knight’ fused with the dark to ‘save’ his ‘friends’ and might be hence why sans is looking for friends for papyrus.
