In the future, try blotting with a towel instead of scrubbing. Scrubbing can agitate the stain and force it deeper into the fibers. Also, if you do need to scrub, scrub towards the inside of the stain to minimize the spread. I dropped a bottle of pen ink onto the carpet a few years ago, and it was a miracle that I got it out.
