i was in a chatty server once and i brought up that there’s absolutely no way karl thought the grey skin and stuff was from a cold, and someone else said maybe he was in denial of the fact that blücher was infected and was holding onto hope that it was a bad cold, even knowing it wasnt. i like that idea because it makes me even more sad

Moreover, Karl didn't want to die alone, so he stayed by Blücher’s side all the way to the fortress until the very end. Deep down, he might have also believed that Blücher was tough enough to overcome it. In history, Blücher was notoriously reckless, stubborn, and eccentric beyond measure. Unfortunately, no matter how tough someone is, death always catches up eventually.
