I don’t think ppl understand tho … hugie didn’t have a right to leave Liz bc he only broke up with her bc he thinks she cheated … in every possible way Liz was raped by pierce there is no “ grey area” so for me yes I do blame Hughie for breaking up w Liz bc she didn’t cheat .. and if ppl genuinely think he’s not gonna regret it … your nit paying attention or reading the books right

i was so mad at him for this especially because she went electro shock therapy to try and get “better” for HIM, all while he gave up not knowing the full story. it’s going to break him when he finds the truth 🥺

I don’t blame or hate him for leaving, after thinking she cheated that is fair. what I don’t like is he didn’t give her air to explain what happened truly and I lost a lot of respect for him after he supposedly loved Liz since they where children yet it took him just a few weeks of “the love of his life” being out of town before he started dating a new girl. Like on other characters wouldnt jump in to a new relationship if that quickly after they end with there partner. Like I feel it should have been a year at the least before he and Katie stated dating, it was such and out of character thing to do.

comments are insane saying that Hugh didn't love Liz like aoife loved Joey when all he's been doing for more than half his life is taking care and loving Liz, cheating was just a line that can't be excused no matter what mental state Liz was at that time and even though I agree that Liz was taken advantage of and assaulted it doesn't erase the feeling of betrayal Hugh felt when he was the one to discover and see them in the act. Hugh is not at all irrational for how he reacted because he was also just a kid who thought that his girlfriend cheated on him and admitted to himself that he still loved her despite thinking she cheated. we need to remember that Hugh has feelings too and is allowed to feel betrayed when that happens to him because he isn't a reader like us that has the full story of what happened to Liz and despite that he still is willing to be there for her just not with her even though it hurts him deep inside.
