This territory was under Jewish sovereignty long before the emergence of a Palestinian national identity. The kingdoms of Israel and Judah existed here, Jerusalem was their historic capital, and Jewish communities maintained a continuous presence for centuries. Israel’s historical connection to this territory cannot simply be erased.
