As educators, we call it the hidden curriculum the unwritten expectations institutions teach us about how to survive. The problem is that survival strategies are often mistaken for guarantees. They aren't. Understanding the hidden curriculum may help you navigate an institution, but it cannot guarantee that the institution will protect you.
