My high school science teacher made us say the proper way of saying you had to pee before he’d let us leave the class. “My renal capacity has reached its threshold and my micturition process is about to begin.” It’s been over 20 years, and I still say it. 🤣

Not so much my teacher, but my classmates reactions to him. I have a high pitch voice and I’ve always been insecure about it. My sophomore year, In the middle of answering a question my teacher stopped me and said “Can u please stop talking. I hate how high pitched ur voice is”. I cried all afternoon. My friend (also in that class) secretly convinced the whole entire 4th period class to stop speaking during that period. Stop interacting. Not answer him. He lost his ability to teach for almost 3 whole weeks before he threatened to fail us all and someone told him what was up and he apologized. He messaged me last year (18 years later) to tell me that changed his entire perspective on being respectful towards the kids he teaches. I wish I was still close with my friend who used his popularity to do that for me.

When I was in Grade 7, my teacher slapped me while we were lined up outside the classroom. Someone called my name, so I turned around to look. While I was looking back, the line in front of me moved, and I didn’t step forward right away. Without warning, the teacher slapped me. I was so shocked and angry that I slapped her back.

This isn't mean, actually so wholesome. I'm 35 now, but in 7th grade I met my math teacher for that year. She came to my house when a parent passed away and sat with me. She came to Medieval times with me for my 18th birthday. She sent me the key chain she promised to gift me when I got my license. I finally got them at 26. She mailed that keychain to me. She met my children. March of this year, she was the first person I was allowed to call when I went to rehab. She's been there with me through it all and never gave up on me. Listened to my drunken phone calls, sent me mental health gifts. Talked me out of my negative head space. Some teachers really are the hero a child needs.

A professor told me I was so much smarter than I believed I was and my issue wasn’t learning, it was my lack of dedication to learning. She wasn’t wrong and I was slacking and giving minimal effort.

in 9th grade I got into a scuffle with two star basketball players. Brothers so they made it a family fight. Its always the second one to throw a punch to get caught. We all got called into principal office and I knew i was getting the paddle (yes that old) he gave all 3 of us choice paddle or suspension. im the only one that took the paddle the other 2 left. Principal said im gonna smack the desk and when you leave my office you better have a tear in your eye. When i went to walk out he looked at me and said them two other boys are assholes and he knew they started it. It was a happy day but looking back im like if you knew they started it why the hell am in trouble.

My Form Tutor was also Head of P.E . He screamed at me two weeks before the end of school that "won't amount to anything, you'll fail all your exams and get no qualifications.....what are you going to do then?" I replied by saying "well, id just become a P.E teacher" 🤣

When my high school psychology teacher made us go around the room and say what we wanted to go to college for, he scoffed when I said education. He told me I wasn’t social or extroverted enough to make a good teacher. I’ve had a successful teaching career of 13 years so far, and I’m now a special education director. Eat that, Mr. Scott!

Mrs Higgins. Sparta Mi. 5th grade. Strict, but fair. “You know you’re smart, right?” No, I didn’t. No one in my life had ever told me that. I was shocked. It changed my brain. She had me join the advanced spelling class (which was field trips and project orientated work) and invited me to the club called Science is for Girls. My kids ended up having her as a teacher. ❤️

A high school geometry teach who also headed a club said to the club, “leaders take care of people. If you take care of people the rest will fall into place.” I have taken a people first mentality to every job and it has made life so much easier.

My APUSH teacher asked us to go around the room and say what we wanted to do career wise after HS and I said I wanted to be a teacher and he burst out laughing and said if you become a teacher they really lowered the standards. Fast forward to today, not only am I a teacher but the youngest department chair at my school and my content in the county and on track to become an assistant principal.

In NZ, year 9, we had around 28 students in the class…social studies teacher sat us down first class and said, “i want you all to look around the class. Look at evh of your classmates. By the time you all graduate, 5 of you will be smokers, 1 will be pregnant (or had the baby), 26 of you would have tried drugs or alcohol, 3 of you will die and 2 will commit suicide. How do I know this? Because studying people and populations is what social studies is all about. Those are the latest stats. The choices you make today, will affect your tomorrow, Somake good choices. Which statistic are you going to be?” He was 100% right 💔

“Relax, take a deep breath, have confidence in your knowledge, you’re all beautiful.” - my high school AP Psych teacher my junior year . She would say it before every quiz and/or test. What she doesn’t know is that’s what I said to myself for every exam I ever sat for; senior year, through undergrad, my masters program, my state tests, licensing and certification courses, all of it. Not so wild but Miss Galley ended every class with "If you can't be good, be safe" That has influenced a lot of moments in my life, consciously knowing that what I may be doing isn't necessarily good for me, but I'll be safe in doing so.

I am legally blind and had a very difficult time seeing things clearly on the board, words written, tests, etc. I told my teacher that I couldn’t see from where I was sitting (she sat me in the last row of the room) and she said, verbatim, “in what world is that my problem?” Now I am a special education teacher working with children with disabilities, both physical and cognitive, and I think about how someone said that to me and I NEVER want another child to feel that way.

Me and my boyfriend had a class together and every time she needed a couple for an example she would always say "yall wont be together after graduation" "this is just a high school crush" etc. it's been 16 years and we are still together. married 10 years with 2 kids.

Year 8 science, we had an assignment to write a biography of 4 scientists. I wrote about 4 women. The comment on my assignment was "Is this some sort of feminist thing?" with "not a real scientist" written on a couple of them and a bad mark.
