Companies still hire engineers for a simple fact, AI can code but it still need steering and guidance, for a simple job yes AI do very well, but a bit complicated one, not yet. Products that I’m doing is far beyond what AI can do.

Silly take . Just because you’re sitting on a tool that could build other tools doesn’t mean you know how to build those other tools let alone are committed to take the time to doing so and paying the token cost of doing a one-to-one clone for example there are miles and hours and millions of tokens behind having the same idea and actually building it to the same Fidelity.

In me experience as a 10 year software dev. 7.5 of those years pre AI boom…I think personally you still need software devs. Just not as many. Like I can do everything a team of like 3-5 could do. And I say that out of experience of my entire team getting let go and it’s just me left support our application. I also think it’s getting a to a point where non technical people 100% can actually bypass a developer altogether for prototyping phase and MVP. But the catch is that they still have to sit down for 6-15 hours a day implementing until completion lol. Yes you can iterate. Prompt. Walk away. Come back. But it still requires time and focus to get the software how you want it especially as things grow in complexity for the application. And there are still occasional issues where the AI can’t solve the problem to which you have to go in and do it yourself or like understand the reason of failure and how to prompt the AI out of its failure loop…where non technical people might just absolutely give up. So if a non technical person is determined I think they can go a long way. But a lot of them don’t wanna sit at their pc and figure all this out. They still wanna focus on other things like marketing or client relations etc etc. so still having a developer or small number of developers is required imo

No, there is a lot of market this is the best time for everyone to make software, it has always been how you solve the problem and the architecture of you app the workflow with pure logic. put it this way Steve Jobs had AI all the time the engineers that work for him he had the vision and architecture of what everything needs to do in order to solve problems.

I work in enterprise as a consultant and technical architect. I work with colleagues. I've been at this for over 29 years. I work with colleagues that are always saying "I haven't really looked at AI yet.. but I will"... so.. the average person isn't going around coding real production apps. it's not happening.

The demand for apps, websites and software in general will always be in demand, but the times have changed. we keep chasing large enterprises and corporations. The money is currently in small to mid sized businesses. Times are tough for US Citizens and getting a job is tougher now. We should start offering our skills to the gig economy. Small business owners, etc. Small money is better than no money.
