I think Kvothe died in his sleep at the end of book two, which is why we’ll never get book 3. Rothfuss has cemented himself in history forever with the most amazing unfinished work.

My husband's Kingkiller Chronicle theory is that Patrick Rothfuss told us from the beginning that the series would never be finished. Kvothe's dad spends years writing the definitive song about Lanre, only to die before completing it. My husband thinks that's the real foreshadowing: Arliden's unfinished masterpiece mirrors The Doors of Stone. The story within the story was the clue all along. It's probably not true... but it's just plausible enough to hurt.

It honestly pisses me off about these authors who can’t be bothered to finish their books. If you aren’t sure what you’re going to do with your saga or trilogy or whatever, just don’t release the books at all.
