Personally if I looked outside the window and saw wild horses sprinting down the street, I’d simply think the lord is here and this is judgment day.

The horses were all found together at the beach and were successfully relocated away from the wildfires btw

For everyone saying ‘poor horses’. This center did the right thing! These horses couldn’t have survived in a stable, they wouldn’t have been engulfed by the fire. So the center actually gave theses horses a chance of escaping

they're heard animals. they'll stay together and find somewhere safe and hopefully, once this has passed, they will be able to be found (with the help of drones maybe?) and brought back home again. this is the best option of there is no time to evacuate them all by trailers. open the gates gives them the best chance to survive when time is running out.

This is, unfortunately, the best and safest thing to do for the horses in an emergency where trailering may take seconds too long or cause injury to a panicked horse. There’s been a handful of times we’ve opened the gates during tornado or hurricane warnings. Just braid a dog tag with the horse and owners’ information onto the base of the mane near the poll.

We do this on farms in Australia. Release the live stock so they can get away from the fire & not be trapped against fences. Then we sort the mega herds to return to their own farms. Will be probably doing that this summer coming.

i thought everywhere did this for their horses when this kind of thing happens! a huge fire was in my area a few years ago and a ton of people had to release their horses because they’re more likely to survive that way. horses are smart animals and most of them will be returned safely back to their home.

One of the hardest things I've ever done was to write my name and number on my horse's side and then open his gate to let him run, desperately hoping he'd survive the wildfires. I was 14 at the time and I felt like I was abandoning him, but it was actually his only chance. Thank all that's good, he and the other horses from the barn were found alive the next day. A little cut up, but OK. He lived almost 20 more years, to the ripe old age of 33. 💕💕

This is actually the correct thing to do in a disaster. Horses have natural instincts that will protect them from disasters. If they’re locked up, they’ll die. It’s best to let them run away

yep. cut the fences, open the doors, let them run away. they'll stay together mostly and have better chances of survival

They did the right thing. That’s the most reasonable thing to do. They can always assemble them again after the emergency is fixed!
