i despise what they are doing to jeyne arryn and rhaena. one of the few canonical feminists in the books that is on rhaenyra's side because they both are female leaders. for her to slap a targaryen princess is very dumb (what dunk almost got killed for) and makes me believe that they chose black velaryons just to abuse them

My thoughts: Baela/Alyn came out of no where with no build up, I think Alicent drugged Helaena with moon tea, people are being very dramatic (aka just plain homophobic) about Gwayne being gay, it’s really being showcased how poorly Viserys prepared Rhaenyra to rule too, I think it’s interesting how all of Alicent’s manipulation towards Aemond is more about taking him out of the equation vs Alys manipulating him to keep him in it so she can get what she wants from him. Overall, still a little sad we haven’t seen a whole lot of fighting this season and BB was a bit lackluster BUT I’m exciting for the next episode! I think this season will end with Tumbleton with the pacing. I also don’t think we’ll have 1 and 2, I think they’ll merge both battles.

I’ve been confused about the jeyne Arryn and rhaena storyline. The hostility seems way over the top and mostly unearned. I’m not enjoying lady jeyne’s characterization. The actress is great though.

The Rhaena and jeyne interactions feel racist to me. Also no one would dare lay a hand on a Targaryen princess that has a dragon parked outside. Like I don't understand this plot at all

I get that Cristons death want cathartic to us the viewers, but he WANTED to die in battle. He wanted people singing songs of how great of a knight he was and view he died in battle. The way he went was awesome to me because it wasn't what he wanted.

I love any scene with Baela and/or Rhaena, but I just want more from both. They've done so much to add to characters like Helaena. I just wish they'd do the same for Baela and Rhaena.

Saw a lot of early reviews criticizing the Cole scene for where it was in the episode and how it went down but honestly I loved the bleakness of it all. He’s spent almost two full seasons trudging through the woods looking for battles to no avail, gets to show that he is a good warrior with a 1v3 fight right before a completely unceremonious death. That’s war. We’re just so used to that pay off coming at the end of episodes as if it was what everything was about but to me HOTD got it right here. It’s just another battle with meaningless death

Just nodding along with all of your Ulf thoughts. I genuinely think he’s one of the best written characters on the show. Also like how clear it is that no matter who sits the throne no one really cares about the smallfolk and now we have two of those characters who actually have the power to challenge that structure. Having Daemon be the one to beat Ulf in public was a good choice to me bc as much as he says otherwise he is very aware of the way the city works, the way people move there and he knew right away kicking Ulf like that was turning the people on him (and Rhaenyra).

That TAPESTRY 😱 show me the full spread and someone tattoo it on me immediately! They’ve done a tremendous job with Helaena! The foreshadowing around her in this episode alone was enough to make me cry! “I do not know the ways of dragons, but I have long envisioned the return of the Targaryens to this ancient seat.” - Alys Rivers. Instant tears 🥹 immediately took me straight to Dany’s vision over the Trident! I’ve LONGED for a connection with Harrenhall and Dany!! Totally thought that was Viserion’s egg! Loved the way Aemond speaks of curses and destruction while holding the egg associated with life and hope 🥰! Also the line “you’ll fall alone and to what end?” -Alys Rivers 😮💨! Jeyne and Rhaena at first had me literally yelling “WTF!? that’s a scared child” wondering why is Rhaena not standing up for herself!? By the end though, I felt it was Jeyne’s misguided attempt at “mothering” Rhaena to keep them both safe! Totally agree on Alyn and Baela! Jace was a “we’ve known each other our whole life’s and enjoy each others company” whereas Alyn FINALLY sparks that SPARK in Baela 🙂↕️👏!

I think with Rhaenyra and Helaena … Rhaenyra was a boy mum rough and ready she isn’t used to or doesn’t understand Helaenas soft and gentle nature and doesn’t know how to approach her at all in the correct way being aggressive won’t get her very far with someone sweet like Helaena

I don't like the balea and alyn thing bc for one they've basically got the same age gap as daemon and rhaenyra, and viserys and alicent, but also Harry said he wanted to show more of jace and baela actually caring for each other and an improvised kiss on the cheek was removed from the final cut.
