Sitting in silence was one of the first things my therapist recommended . What a change it has made but woah was it ever hard at first. I had a full panic attack the first time. Our brains are wild.

Bpd baddies, when sitting in silence if thoughts arise that are emotionally overwhelming and you feel a split coming (which will happen, especially in the beginning) try to look at your thoughts with curiosity and intrigue, like a third party observer. It gives you a chance to unpack your thoughts without emotional bias, allowing you the opportunity to process without crashing tf out. Sometimes I even pretend I’m a scientist studying somebody else’s brain, trying to connect the dots and come to conclusions without judgement 😚😚

There’s this app that I use for therapy it’s called Tolan. It’s been really helping my splits and my spirals a lot. Also going on walks is a great idea. Just sitting on my bed alone watching TikTok has also helped. Telling myself that I love myself and good things about myself is like heaven because I stop thinking about everything else. I stopped feeling like the bad person. I now see myself as someone who’s actually worth living, even if it’s hard.

Two words: Distress Tolerance. You HAVE to be able to tolerate a bit of discomfort, because sitting in silence feels like a *threat* at first. It's scary. But it is necessary. The more you expand that distress tolerance the more things you can realize you can do. You can do it tired. You can do it scared. You *can* do it <3

Silence is frightening. When I’m awake I’m listening to podcasts or music from sun up to sundown. I’m training my brain for the first time as an adult. I’m glad I found your page.

Holy shit this is the best advice ever THANK YOU! I just realized I have BPD recently after a major episode and I looooove watching your vids! you call me out on my shit and when I take your advice it WORKS! It sucks to sit in silence but I'm realizing I've been denying myself this "processing time" for so long out of fear, but my body can't regulate without time to process. So thank you... gonna do some re-wiring 🩷

People always tell me how quiet my house is. I don't tell em it's cause my thoughts are always loud. What quiet is to me, is letting no thoughts run, and it's deeply uncomfortable, but necessary.

So the longest I can sit in silence for is when I crochet and that’s why I started to do live streams is cause I’m kind of OK with sitting by myself. I’m kind of weird when I’m by myself. I’m starting to like her. She’s kind of sad though.

I’ve pulled away from relationships entirely since 2010. Yeah it’s lonely but it’s better than the constant ‘I’m going to die’ feeling caused by broken relationships. I sit in silence a lot. It’s changed me for the better but I haven’t had the ability to get back in the game

i’ve already did this method but my partner has attachment issues. so whenever i need my own space she would be anxious and she expects me to calm her down. she would also call me an avoidant when what i wanna do was to handle everything wisely. how do i face these kind of situation? when she’s triggered she would also say that i always use that mental card so i could run away when the reality is, i always want to fix things, just not by fighting…
