@daniellejmitchell: I remember the moment I found out I was going to have to give birth to my sleeping baby, I was planning a vaginal birth after a traumatic C-section with my first, I had been cleared by my therapist to mentally be able to handle a vaginal birth after the trauma of my first, but was waiting for the doctors clearance to be physically fit for a vaginal birth, it was that same doctors appointment where we found out we needed to be referred to fetal medicine, because her organs were growing on the outside of her body, they said you won’t be able to have your vbac if her organs are on the outside of her body, it was much worse, she ended up not being compatible with life, we made the decision to terminate for medical reasons at 26 weeks pregnant, and I remember when that doctor told me, that a vaginal birth, is the only option to have, that they don’t do a C-section unless it is an emergency, with no life of the baby the risks are too high for the mum, and will affect future pregnancies. I was terrified, there was absolutely no way that I thought I could go through with a vaginal birth of a sleeping baby, but then after time progressed, and I unpacked it in therapy, the outcome of death had already happened, and we were already grieving. The things that are so scary about labour and vaginal birth for me is the unknown, but we already knew, and no matter what happened that outcome couldn’t change. Mums that haven’t experienced a termination for medical reasons at late term pregnancy won’t understand how I can say that it was such a peaceful experience, and I too couldn’t understand other women who walked before me that said it was one of the peaceful births that they had. But now I’m on the other side of that and I can wholeheartedly say, that the fear that you have, thinking about potentially needing to birth a sleeping baby is so valid, but you can do it, you are so incredibly strong, and so is your body, birthing our Maggie Jean, and getting that VBAC that I always wanted (just not the same outcome) was such an amazing experience, getting to meet her and hold her, was exactly what it needed to be for me, peaceful. It’s going to be hard, and the next few weeks after are really rough, but you will do it, and you will meet a whole new version of yourself. If I could go back in time and pick a C-section for vaginal birth, I’d pick the vaginal birth every time.

I had to give birth to my stillborn daughter at 40+3 10 years ago. I would love mums going through it to know that it is also ok to ask for an epidural. Its ok to laugh, cry, scream etc. Its ok to hold your baby. Name your baby, watch a movie with your baby. Whatever feels right is right.

I’ve followed you since you found out you were pregnant, you were only a few weeks further than me, so by the time you announced it, I just found out. I felt your pain when Maggie was born but I couldn’t connect you on a personal level because my baby was still with me. I am now 6 days PP after delivering my son at 19w+6d after going into labour. Thank you for sharing your story, it’s been somewhat comforting knowing I’m not alone ❤️🩹

My mum was forced to give birth vaginally in ‘78 to a still birth at 40+4. Hospital refused to give pain relief and any time with the child. They never knew what happened to him. She believes that he was buried with a woman who had recently passed, as that is what they supposedly did back then.

can I ask why c section wasn't an option? wouldn't it be better for the yours/any moms mental health or would the healing process make it harder maybe?

Something that I realised in therapy - my worst fears have already happened and I survived, so I can make it through anything. I don’t know if that’s helpful for anyone else - but it helped me x

I chose to deliver vaginally at 14 weeks TFMR when it was more common to have surgery. I think after having one living child already I could bare the thought of not being able to meet my little man. The hardest yet somewhat best choice we made. Having those memories with him and being able to hold him even though he was so so little was what felt right in the most wrong situation. 🤎🤎

I gave birth to my girl at 37 weeks. I believed they all were wrong and she maybe came in the world alive. She was my first baby and giving birth to her was the most beautiful thing in the world. I wish you so much love with your girl ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I had a tfmr at 30+4 days with my son Isaac in December 2024. The loneliest journey I have ever been on. I've barely told anyone I know that I had a tfmr as everyone judges that decision way too much. I feel a pain in my heart that I can't share with anyone. Guilt. Anger. Watching your videos makes it feel a little less lonely so thank you ❤️and I am so so sorry you have had to experience this heartache ❤️❤️

I delivered my wee girl at 21+5 weeks back in 2018. It was the most alone I’d ever felt and the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Thank you for sharing your honest and raw story with us all. It’ll help so many other mums in our position feel less alone. Rest in peace Maggie💖💕
