I feel like a big thing growing up Asian is like the academic binary “right/wrong” mindset. Yk feeling like you need to make the *correct* decision on paper rather than just making a decision. It lowk takes time to break out of that, but is defo possible

I think it’s more about whether you grew up with wealth or not. Lots of white parents encourage their kids to take risks bc they can afford to help if they mess up. Lots of Asian parents did not have that, every mistake costed a lot of money, so they wanted to optimize based on what they opportunities they could safely buy

You’re telling me the key to my success is to unlearn the crippling perfectionism deep inside my psyche bc my parents expected me to always improve… oh…

There’s a big difference when you come here on a F1/H1B and aren’t allowed to make a single mistake in your decision making, otherwise you’re out. And then having white parents with money you can move in with in case you fail crash and burn and simply try again. That’s the privilege.

That’s because they have the privilege of failing. Immigrants who have no one here and on visa don’t have the financial luxury to take risks like that.

Analysis paralysis. I don't think it's a white or Asian thing. It's just a personality trait.

It’s not some special mindset. Wealth just allows you to think bigger than survival. I waste tons of money now because it saves my cognitive load

Agreed, Asian brother! Both cultures are valuable. Sometimes failing, learning and do better next time is just quicker and easier!
