a few hours after your mom's passing, my family said goodbye to our 25-year-old cat (a remarkably entitled tortie). i told her a little about your mom beforehand, in case there's a buddy system on the other side. 🥹

Thank you for posting. I’m not sure why meeting your mom two weeks ago has caused such an impact. But I’ll think of her for the rest of my life. Her strength and positivity. Her attitude on retaining and reclaiming as much of herself as she can. I hope peace is with you knowing you had a lioness as a mother.

so sorry for your loss, Maya. I lost my Dad to alzheimer's mentally in 2006, and physically in 2013. Such a horrible disease to watch. It was a brave and selfless choice of her to make sure that you didn't need to watch or worry about her deterioration. She'll find ways to show you she's still with you.

She loved you so much she decided to ensure you would remember her for exactly who she is, not what dementia would have made her become - I’m so sorry you’re going through this. Grief is so hard.

Your mom changed my entire family. I showed them her TikTok’s and as a family we discussed end of life choices.. we all over 50 now and we as siblings know each other’s wishes.

I lost my mom to dementia in January. I don’t wish this on anyone. 🕊️🤍 Someone shared this with me. It’s been passed on to many in grief. Grief is like glitter. In the beginning, it’s everywhere. On your hands, in your hair, scattered across every corner of your life. You try to clean it up, to restore some sense of order. And for a while, it seems like you’ve succeeded. But then, one day, you move a sofa or open a forgotten drawer, and there it is again. A tiny sparkle that catches the light and reminds you of what you lost. It doesn’t go away completely. It settles, becomes quieter, less overwhelming. You learn to live with it, to carry it gently. And years later, when you find a bit of that glitter tucked behind a shelf, you might smile. Maybe even laugh. Because it reminds you of love, of connection, of someone who mattered deeply. Eventually, something will catch your eye. A photo, a favorite song, a familiar scent, and instead of pain, you’ll feel warmth. That’s the quiet truth about grief. It stays with you, but it changes. It becomes a part of your story, a soft echo of the love that never really left. I’m sorry for your loss. Hugs to you. 🕊️🤍

She exists in the ethos. She exists in the quiet, in the chaos, in the moments that matter and the ones that dont seem to matter at all. A piece of her will always remain with you, and will never leave. I lost my mama too, and I find her often in the stillness. She was a beautiful person and a more beautiful soul.

As the daughter of my mom, who has Frontotemporal Dementia, I can wholeheartedly say what a selfless decision I believe your mother made. I know it hurts beyond words, but I imagine she made that choice with so much love for you, your sweet babies, and your family. If my mom had known she had FTD before it progressed, and if this had been an option available to her, I truly believe she may have made the same choice. Instead, we watch this disease slowly take pieces of her every day. She's still here, but we grieve her loss daily. I also have young children, and watching their grandma live with dementia has been incredibly heartbreaking for them. Your mom's decision was deeply personal, and I hope it brought her the peace she wanted while sparing your family some of the suffering this disease can bring. I think of your mom and your family often. Wishing you all continued peace and comfort. 🤍

My mother has Alzheimer’s and she does not know who I am anymore. The most shocking thing for me was the change in her personality. Your mom had such a beautiful presence and personality that she shared with us online. I hope that it brings you comfort to remember her that way. Wishing you comfort and love on your grief journey.

so sorry. I know it must be hard. My daughter is having to watch as her dad slips away every day. He has persistent hallucinations and can do little for himself. I know you miss her but I'm glad you didn't have to watch her lose the ability to do everything she loved.

Your mom was so brave. I can't imagine how bad your heart hurts missing her. However, what a gift she gave you, shielding you from the misery and helplessness of her suffering in the advanced stages of the disease. At a certain point she wouldn't have realized how horrible it was but you would have. Sending love and light to you and your family 💜
