PRESS RELEASE VISITOR ARRESTED AT AGODI CUSTODIAL CENTRE FOR CONCEALING HARD DRUGS IN FOOD The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Oyo State Command, informs the public of the arrest of a visitor attempting to smuggle suspected hard drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Agodi, Ibadan. At approximately 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday, 25th February 2026, a male visitor was apprehended during routine security checks conducted on visitors and their belongings at the facility entrance. The suspect, who claimed to be visiting an inmate, was found to have concealed substances suspected to be Colorado and hemp inside a portion of cooked rice. The illicit items were discovered due to the diligence and professionalism of the gate duty officers, whose thorough search prevented the prohibited substances from entering the custodial facility. Further investigation revealed inconsistencies in the suspect’s stated purpose for the visit, indicating an apparent attempt to evade detection. Following the arrest, the suspect was immediately handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and appropriate legal action. The handover was carried out by the Officer-in-Charge of the facility, Assistant Controller of Corrections Sunday Adekunmbi. The Controller of Corrections for Oyo State, Osogun C Olusegun, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism. He reaffirmed the NCoS’s commitment to ensuring the security, safety, and integrity of all custodial centres in the state. He further warned individuals with criminal intent that the custodial facilities in Oyo State are highly secure, and any attempt to smuggle prohibited items will be detected. Those caught engaging in such illegal activities will be apprehended and handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agencies for prosecution. The Command urges the public to cooperate with correctional Service authorities and refrain from engaging in unlawful acts.
