The vast majority of ice, is sitting ontop of landmass. So as it melts, it enters the ocean. Antarctica has a land mass beneath it. Also, it’s an exponential affect; the polar caps keep the earth cooler - so once you have less ice, the speed at which ice melts gets faster.

It is because as ice absorbs thermal energy, its hydrogen bonded crystal lattice reaches a critical threshold and begins to collapse. The absorbed energy breaks intermolecular bonds rather than raising the temperature, causing a phase transition into liquid water. As the rigid structure becomes more compact the volume decreases and the density increases until the melting process is complete. It’s all about the bonds you gotta diversify the bonds.
