Years ago, I was her - just without the wonderfully funky, individualistically strong style of dress. People looked at me EXACTLY as they look at her, and it became hurtful. I of course began wondering WHY? What was wrong with me? Was I THAT ugly? Did I smell? I tried improving my appearance - more meticulous in grooming, more expensive cologne, being mindful to smile more. Nothing worked. At my first opportunity, I moved many miles away from that large urban area, to a more rural one. Surprisingly, my reception was instantly opposite of the one I left. The whole vibe was relaxed and accepting and inclusive - to the point where I felt free to be myself. Today, in this conservative little town, I even dress a little more like the woman in the video. And I don't know if it's because my inner peace kicked in, or if the people here are simply more accepting of "different" - but I've never been more "me" here than ever before. And I have deeper love and appreciation for those who either dare to, or just can't help but be their beautifully quirky, strange, weird, eccentrically dressed, odd behaving, authentic SELF. 😊
