@obasi.pens.and.thought: "Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated." For years, I thought this verse meant God picked favorites. Then I went back and read the story for myself. What I found completely changed how I understood Jacob, Esau, the birthright, and one of the most misunderstood passages in the Bible. Maybe Esau's greatest loss wasn't a bowl of stew. Maybe it was no longer seeing the value of what God had already placed in his hands. What has God entrusted to you that you don't want to take for granted? if you read that story carefully you will see that Jacob was meant to be the first born coz he reached his hand out and a red string was tied to it meaning he was the first child then his hand went back so Jacob was the first born just that Esau stole his place

Humanly speaking I don't blame Esau his life was a script written by God just like pharaoh he had to live his life in every way to bring God's thoughts into existence

Esau was hungry to the point of death having returned from a fierce fight with Nimrode and his men who were also hunters.

God, may my destiny always lead back to You. I'm unworthy and sinful. I just want to be by Your side all the time (even though I'm less loved by You).

I don’t believe this though! Esau’s and destiny has been decided even before he was born! The rest are just fulfillment of the prophecies! What will you say about her mother’s extreme love for Jacob? What will you say about the deceit from her mother?

the story of God picking Jacob over Esau was not an issue of God knowing Esau will eventually despise his inheritance,it was an issue of divine election for the purpose of God to stand...after Adam fall, our standard of measuring what is right and wrong was corrupted so God's choice will always seem wrong to us

He’s just bound to sell that birthright anyways. Forces beyond his control will push him, he’s not a poor man to have made that decision out of hunger. He needed to cede that physically for him to lose it spiritually and he doesn’t even have a choice, God was making that happen. There’s nothing he could have done, he was in same situation as pharaoh when he was told to let Isreal go.

Do you mean God already knew Esau will trade his birthright from the begining?

Jacob i love Esau i hate the "hate" actually meant preferred less and his life was planned but he wasn't forced to act the way he did,he chose to God's foreknowledge isn't coercion because he knows what you'll do doesn't mean he made you do it

So in essence , Esau took his inheritance for granted and cared little for it , which might be why God gave up on him from the start because he knew what would happen.. remember As soon as eve ate the forbidden fruit , humans have the ability to know good and evil and that consciousness was one God never took from us .. He gave us autonomy to act how we wanted because he didn’t want puppets.. Therefore Esau despising his covenant made Jacob become the obvious choice .. God never stopped him from making his choice , the same way God never forced Jacob to love him .. Wow, just wow .. You opened my eyes .. for the first time I’m not looking at Esau as a victim ..

we serve a God that sees the end from the beginning and knows the heart of each before they are born. God knew Esau's heart and Jacob zeal for him before they were born. It was never the sin but the man in God

@dotti115: God loves every human and does not choose favourites. If you watch how Jacob’s live spiral after that and Esau getting the ultimate peace you will understand the heart of God. People leave out the part where Esau embraced Jacob at the end of it all told him he had forgiven him and could go in peace. Esau then retreated to live peacefully with his family while Jacob went into chaos. People only pick scriptures to favour there thinking but in real sense God does not have favourites. To map out Rebecca’s influence you have to trace her lineages. Both Rebecca and Issac served two different God’s. While Issac served the God of his father Abraham, Rebecca continued to worship the idols that long existed in terah’s time that is why she had to influence Jacob to still the blessing from his father Issac almost to take the birthright so he can continue the spirituality she held in her Lineage that is why it cost Jacob his life and what followed. When you look closely at it you realise it was a battle of spirituality and not the actual material possessions.
