@gossifytv: She was eight months pregnant and the boyfriend accused her of having four other males, but the relationship that once felt like home had already turned cold. Faith Kalondu Musembi was nineteen, a first-year Health Records and Information student at Mount Kenya University’s main campus and the first-born of Boniface Musembi Ndunda and Judy Mukulu Musembi from Kisekini village in Machakos. She lived in a rented house in Pilot Estate, Hospital Ward, Thika, carrying both her studies and an advanced pregnancy. David Kioko Wambua was twenty-five and a student at Tom Mboya University. They came from the same part of Machakos and had known each other for about six years. Police later stated that the two had been in a relationship that included periods of cohabitation. By the time of her death, the relationship had grown strained. Investigators said Kioko believed Faith had other male partners — he allegedly claimed she had four — and that jealousy and mistrust formed the suspected motive. The advanced stage of the pregnancy also raised the stakes. The approaching reality of fatherhood and the responsibilities that would follow may have added further pressure, though the police publicly emphasised the allegations of infidelity as the core of their preliminary case. By eight months, the pregnancy could no longer be hidden. Detectives would later seek DNA testing related to the unborn child. On the evening of Wednesday, 8 May 2024, around 7:30 pm, Faith’s mother received a call on Faith’s own phone. An unknown person demanded a ransom of Sh27,000 for her release. The family sent the money. The caller continued using her phone. Boniface Musembi travelled to Thika that night. He reported the matter at Thika Police Station and contacted the university. The family said officers treated it as a likely prank or student trick, something they claimed was common. They also approached the Thika DCI office with the same result. They later publicly blamed the police for laxity, saying quicker action might have saved her. The next day, Thursday, 9 May, an uncle, Joseph Kinaka, messaged Faith’s phone. Further demands followed — around Sh33,000 extra — together with threats that she would die with her unborn child if the family did not cooperate. Messages shared by the family showed the sender accusing them of failing to follow instructions and referencing higher totals, including Sh60,000 in one exchange. One message read: “Can you tell the mother to cooperate and have her daughter back, or she dies with her unborn child.” Another: “The mother was so clever to fool me that she would send by 8am, then when the time came, she ignored me. The results are with you.” A third message had the sender saying he would die when his time came and that the family had failed to follow simple instructions. A photo of Faith was sent, showing blood coming from her nose and signs that she had bitten her tongue. When confronted, the person on the phone reportedly admitted she was already dead. The phone was later tracked operating from Nairobi CBD. Boniface went to the rented house. He found a padlock on the door. With help, he cut it open with a hacksaw. Inside, Faith’s body lay on the bed in a pool of blood. Blood was noted coming from the mouth; she appeared to have bitten her tongue. Police then attended. The body was taken to Thika General Kago Funeral Home. An autopsy established that Faith died from excessive bleeding — internal haemorrhage caused by abruptio placentae, the placenta having detached from the uterine wall. The family later asked investigators to determine what caused the abruption. Police planned further samples, including DNA testing on the foetus. Around 14 May 2024, police arrested David Kioko in Nairobi; he was held at Thika. Thika Sub-County Police Commander Lawrence Muchangi confirmed he was the main suspect, linked through the long relationship and the suspected motive of jealousy.
