One of those quiet movies that stays with you long after it ends. The Station Agent (2003), written and directed by Tom McCarthy, follows Finbar McBride (Peter Dinklage), a quiet, reclusive man with dwarfism who has spent most of his life keeping to himself. He works at a model train shop in Hoboken and finds comfort in his obsession with trains. After his elderly friend and boss Henry dies, Fin discovers that Henry has left him an abandoned train depot in rural New Jersey. Fin moves there expecting complete peace and isolation, but his plans quickly change when he meets Joe (Bobby Cannavale), an outgoing food-truck vendor who won’t stop trying to befriend him, and Olivia (Patricia Clarkson), a grieving artist struggling with the loss of her young son and the breakdown of her marriage. Their friendship develops slowly and awkwardly, without either of them really knowing what to do with it.
