I remember I was interviewed for an internship job but the saxophones kept getting louder. They wanted to pay me 20K, then deduct Welfare, NSSF, NHIF. So roughly I would have the balance at 14-15K bare minimum. Then my rent is 12K, meaning my remaining money for lunch and transport for the whole month would be around 2K-3K. When I calculated the fare that I would have used for a whole month I would have been left at 6K, because the area is in Kilimani (mind you there are no matatus, so its either ushikie Adams ama Yaya then uchukue nduthi hadi huko; hata hiyo nduthi ni bare minimum). Then bado sijaongeza pesa ya lunch, housing utilities, wifi (because my work was basically research) and some pocket money. Then it was an 8-5 job, no extra stipend for overtime, 1 hour lunch break. I immeadietely had to rethink if I wanted to join the firm. I get your point!
