Hi ADHD and anxiety here, I do not understand the lack of self responsibility here. I would’ve planned to trip to the gas station well before the point of running out. Not all circumstances are the same but this is completely on the wife.

Based on results, she was able to deal with getting gas and getting home in time for the school pickup. So, she was not helpless. I think she was more angry that she could mange the situation when forced instead of pulling him out of work to do it for her. Expecting an adult to adult is not out of line.

I disagree with half of your take. You are correct on her addressing her symptoms. You’re Wrong on asking the guy to “Care more”!! She’s an ADULT Woman. He gave her multiple options. She’s a big girl & should be able to help herself. Adults don’t cut off communication because they don’t get what they want. She’s manipulative and he held a boundary. Good for him.

I’m confused why she would need to tell him she was going to her sisters house on her day off.

Her lack of planning does not mean he has to treat it as an emergency. I’m with him !

Yes, for emergencies and safety your spouse should kniw where you are. I'm not saying you need permission. But hey I'm going to see my sister, hey I'm going to running errands, that's common courtesy. People need to stop thinking that lettting your partner in life know where you are is somehow giving up rights and privileges. You are not just you anymore, you are half of a team so let your teammate know where you are.

So happy that my husband would NEVER leave me stranded on the side of the road no matter how much the situation was my fault. Poor woman, I cannot imagine calling my husband sobbing and he react that way.

I get his frustration I don’t understand why she couldn’t call triple a. And also why she didn’t plan ahead and get enough gas to get her back. But at the end of the day she’s your wife you need to help

Whether or not she was being treated for anxiety and ADHD, she was in distress and vulnerable. I don’t think her anxiety and ADHD treatment were immediately relevant in this situation. She should leave him. He’s a horrible person to leave his wife stranded like that and then just act like it was nothing and that he’s the innocent party. It was egregious.

My car broke down in a different city and I called my ex husband for help. He called the insurance to pick me up (deduced my location cos i was too nervous) and also called an old friend of his who was in the area, who in turn came all the way to me and kept me company and made sure I got my car repaired while keeping my ex husband informed, and he in turn kept my second husband informed who was away on a work trip (and stopped everything to stay glued to the phone, and also sent money to help with anything) so I didn't waste phone battery. We had been divorced for 3 years at that point. All of this to protect the mother of his children and during work hours. After I was safe, husband apologized for not being there, ex husband apologized cos the car had been his responsibilityto keep im good condition previously, and friend invited me to lunch so I was fed before driving again. So yes, 3 men's actions say poster is very, very wrong.

I’m sorry, but I can’t put this one on the husband. And the fact that she was capable of not answering the phone and ignoring him, she wasn’t too worried and she did figure it out. She just didn’t wanna have to do it for herself and she’s putting it on him.

AAA is the clear answer for running out of gas and “I don’t know how to “ shouldn’t end that discussion. The husband showing up in person is basically moral support.

A woman with 2 children is not a helpless baby. He’s at work. He can’t leave. It’s ridiculous to think that a grown woman can’t call AAA or a tow truck. Stop infantilizing women!

him calling AAA for her was an excellent suggestion. But she also needs to know how to call AAA for herself.

She’s a grown woman she should have known whether the gas in the car would make it to her sister’s and back. She got the kids so she obviously used one of her husband’s suggestions to resolve the issue. This is completely on the wife.

This is a tough one. We do not have enough information to provide any concrete advice beyond that they should go for counseling. Could hubby have left without getting fired? Possibly. Is wife demanding hubby leave on a regular basis and it's damaging his career? Possibly. Does hubby regularly shirk responsibilities outside of earning a paycheck? Does wife expect everyone to drop everything for her anytime something doesn't go exactly right?

The point of marriage is to help each other, if he expects her to help herself when she’s in a moment of crisis, then there’s no need for him

I've been in this situation with my wife and teenage kids but was able to resolve by telling them to call triple A. If the persosn is able to plan a visit and drive a car they should be capable of checking the gas gauge or calling road service if they make a mistake

My husband got really upset at me for not calling him when my car battery died. I call a tow truck to take the car to the repair shop, I called an uber to pick me up. My husband is a teacher I did not want his attention on me when he had children to take care of.

my 24yr old son locked his keys.in his car. he called me freaking out. i told him to call roadside service. he said i dont know how to do that. I explained to him how to do it and he got his car unlocked. Now he has the knowledge on how to be a more successful and self reliant adult. Not everybody has been through situations and they panic the first time. having someone to talk to through it is a huge help in its self.
