Removing an SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) module is a straightforward process, but it requires handling the latching mechanism correctly to avoid damaging the port or the module. Removal Steps 1. Disconnect the Cable: Unplug the fiber optic or Ethernet cable from the SFP module. 2. Unlock the Latch: Locate the small metal bale clasp (wire handle) on the front of the module. Pull the lever down (usually 90 degrees) to the horizontal position. This action retracts the internal locking pin. 3. Pull to Remove: Grasp the bale clasp or the sides of the module and pull it straight out of the slot. 4. Protect the Port: If you aren't replacing it immediately, insert a dust plug into the empty SFP slot and onto the module's optical bore.
