@catlovesu6: When six-year-old Jennie wandered too far into the thick, misty forest behind her grandma’s house, the sun had already dipped low. She twisted around trees, tripped over roots, and soon didn’t know which way was home, she calls for her grandma, but no one answers. She starts crying. “Hey, shorty!” Then she sees a girl standing under a tree. She has pale hair and a white mask. “Why are you crying?” Jennie’s eyes go wide. “It’s a person! I’m saved!” She runs fast straight to Lisa. Lisa steps aside quick. Jennie, stumbles, and falls into the thick grass. Jennie stays flat on the grass, and glares right up at Lisa. Lisa looks down at her. “Sorry,” she says quietly. Then she tilts her head and asks. “You’re a human child, right? If a human touches me, I’ll disappear.” “If a human? You’re not a human?” Jennie asks, eyes wide. “I’m something that lives in the forest,” Lisa answers softly. “What? Then you’re one of the spirits?” “But what do you mean… disappear?” Jennie asks, voice small. Lisa just shakes her head slow, and doesn’t say anything more. Jennie reaches out her hand again and again, trying to touch her. Lisa steps back further every time, keeping her distance. Finally Lisa grabs a thick stick. She hits Jennie’s head hard with it. “Ouch!” Jennie yelps, clutching her forehead. Jennie rubs her sore forehead hard, eyes glistening. “You’re really not a human after all, no human would hit a child like that.” she mumbles. Lisa’s voice goes soft and quiet. “Disappear means to be gone forever. That’s the spell the mountain god placed on me. If I get touched by a human that’s the end...” Jennie looks down, feeling bad. “I’m sorry,” she says quietly. “Here, shorty. You’re lost, aren’t you?” Lisa holds out one end of the stick. “Grab this. I’ll lead you out.” Little Jennie’s face lights up right away. She lets go of the stick and runs forward to hug her again. Lisa taps her head hard with the stick once more. “Ouch!” Jennie stops fast, clutching her forehead. “Didn’t I just tell you?” Jennie hangs her head, voice small. “I’m sorry.” They walk slow, holding the stick between them. Jennie swings the stick a little as they walk. “It feels like we’re going on a date!” Lisa chuckles softly. “Not a very romantic one, though.” Lisa looks at her. “Aren’t you afraid?” Jennie blinks. “Of what?” Lisa pauses, then shakes her head soft. “Never mind.” Lisa points ahead. “Go straight that way. You’ll see the clearing soon.” Jennie stops and looks back, eyes bright. “Will you always be here? Can I see you again if I come back?” Lisa nods soft behind her mask. Jennie pauses at the edge. “I’m Jennie! What’s your name?” Lisa just stands there, mask covering half her face, and says nothing at all. Jennie waits a little longer. “Anyways, I’ll come back tomorrow with a thankyou present!” Lisa stays quiet, just watching her. “Bye!” Jennie turned and ran. Just as she took a few steps, she heard Lisa’s voice soft behind her. “Lisa.” Jennie spun around fast—but there was no one there. She ran again to go home. Then someone shouted her name loud. It was her uncle, running toward her. “Jennie!” “Jennie, you idiot!” her uncle shouted loud, he smacked her head lightly. “Why did you go into that forest all alone?” her uncle asked, still frowning. He kept scolding her the whole way home telling her how dangerous it was, how worried everyone was. But once they reached the house, he ruffled her hair gently and gave her a small smile. —— Night came, and Jennie lay in bed, wide awake. Her mind kept going back to Lisa her pale hair, the white mask, and that soft voice that said her name just before she vanished. She closes her eyes, and fell asleep. —— The next day, Jennie runs straight back to the forest. Lisa is already there, waiting.
