@specter_affairs: Taiwan is experiencing a major uproar as around 200,000 people took to the streets of Taipei in one of the largest protests the island has seen in years. A major food safety scandal affecting all Taiwanese cities and nearly 2,000 schools and businesses has triggered one of the most severe political crises for the US-backed DPP government. The Specter was on the ground in Taipei, where it quickly became evident that the crisis has laid bare a much deeper distrust of the DPP leadership. “They don’t care about the truth. They are trying to cover up the issues. They don’t want people to know what happened,” one protester in Taipei told The Specter.
