Here’s a simple trick that can help: Instead of thinking about all the people you need to contact, tell yourself you only have to do one. Then write out exactly what you want to say. Practice it if you need to. And here’s the mindset shift that helped me: Instead of thinking, “I’m calling a potential client,” think, “I’m reaching out to someone who already expressed interest in something I know how to do. I’m simply seeing if I can help.” Finally, know how you’ll end the conversation before you begin. Having a simple closing in mind makes the whole interaction feel much less intimidating.
