🧬 Disney World’s abandoned golden dome, explained If you’ve ever seen a golden dome while walking to Guardians or riding the monorail around EPCOT and wondered what it was, I have the answer. This is the former home of the Wonders of Life, a full EPCOT pavilion dedicated to the human body and fitness that opened in 1989 with EPCOT’s first thrill ride: Body Wars, a motion simulator like Star Tours that took you through the human body, with a ride film directed by Leonard Nimoy. But that wasn’t even the weirdest celebrity connection, because there was The Making of Me, a 15-minute short film that taught you about where babies come from in a theme park… starring Martin Short. I still can’t believe that was real. What’s even less believable is what happened with Cranium Command. It was a delightful animatronic show that took place inside the brain of a child. It was Inside Out before there was Inside Out, and Buzzy, the main character piloting the brain, was a cult fan favorite. Things took a turn in 2007, when the Wonders of Life closed down. The rides just sat there, abandoned and easy to access, so they became legendary spots for urban explorers (aka trespassers) to sneak into. It got so bad that the Buzzy animatronic was reported stolen in 2018, and 2 people were arrested in connection to this in 2019. That whole saga is the subject of the documentary Stolen Kingdom. But the reason this building is sitting abandoned today has to do with abandoned plans. In 2019, Disney announced it would become the Play Pavilion. But after the pandemic, it’s been permanently on pause. (Fun fact: at this very moment in late 2026, Disney Store is selling a Play Pavilion poster for $40 that says this very cancelled attraction will open in 2021.) So what will Disney do with this abandoned EPCOT building? This is just my speculation, but I think restoring the Wonders of Life as a pavilion about physical and mental health with Baymax and the cast of Inside Out would make a lot of sense. But what do you hope Disney does here? Let me know. 💪 #EPCOT #DisneyWorld #DisneyHistory #disneysecrets #DisneyParks
