i think the people are meant to represent the concepts that's shown after their death. doctors are meant to preserve life, cops are meant to bring justice to those who are criminals, teachers represent the core of intelligence, and soldiers dignify a country. the deaths show the bastardization of each. soldiers go and die in meaningless wars that don't benefit anybody. doctors and the whole medical field is fucked beyond recognition (at least in the us) because of insurance, high costs, and the understaffing. the police are corrupt, ruining the justice within the us. and education is being gutted currently, and the teachers who provide intelligence to the masses have been severely underpaid for forever. not to mention how racism worms it's way into all of these topics. it's absurdist, not absurd

Notice each word given to the first 3 men in order: Dignity, preservation and justice. these words were attributed to these jobs (A soldier carries dignity, a doctor preserves health and a policeman implements justice), but after the 4 of them die their symbols are swapped, which, after the 4th one dies and the word "intelligence" is shown, indicates the flaws each job has: soldiers lack preservation as they are often killed in the battlefield, doctors don't get justice for their hard work and the police has lost all dignity due to corruption. The 4th one stays the same as he's the only one who can tell the truth from the last 3 ones. This is my interpretation, don't take it as truth ;)
