i scolded one of my supervisors recently because i said a policy isn’t real if it’s one that just gets us yelled at until the supervisors use their “discretion” to not follow policy and rewards customers’ bad behavior. like it just makes staff into the bad guys and lets the supervisor swoop in and make us look stupid

Texas Roadhouse has started making you have your entire party there before ANYONE can sit down. I absolutely hate that rule. I was meeting a friend at Texas Roadhouse & got there early to have a few drinks before they got there. Even thought I wanted to spend money, they wouldn’t sit me at table. I had to sit at the bar, close out there, and then get a table when my friend got there. It was so fucking dumb.

On any job that you have that your bosses can bend the rules, just make them take the blame. Don't say "sorry, we cant do that" "our policy doesn't allow that", just say "*I* am not allowed to do it, but if you'd like, I can ask if my manager/supervisor/etc to see if they'll approve :)". Not only do you not take the blame, sometimes you end up as the good guy because you trieeeddd to help them ;D

Yeah I’m not taking the blame on that.. I’m not the one that picks who I follow policy for, that’s the manager who picks.. if you have one moment I will call the manager over and you can complain to him/her..

I wouldn't have given a write-up; however, I would have said, "Only I can choose who I let sit and not, so please don't allow seating of parties until half are present unless otherwise stated by me.".
