he actually did everything right, the gun exploded because he was using "SLAP" rounds that weren't original even though they were supposed to be. it caused a catastrophic failure that almost killed him

if I remember correctly it was a hot round basically what that is it's a higher pressure than the round I supposed to be and it makes the gun explode as you saw
