I have grown cucumbers every single year since I started gardening and I have grown them both on my balcony and even indoors by a sunny window. Tips for growing cucumbers in containers (especially indoors): 1. Plant them in a self-watering container or a grow bag that you can place in a saucer so you can bottom water regularly - cucumbers are super thirsty plants and will wilt (and give you bitter cukes) if they aren't watered enough. 2. Give them a spot where they preferably get plenty of sun during the day but can also enjoy some late afternoon to evening shade. 3. Give them a trellis to climb up to maximise your space (all small space gardeners know how important this is) and secure the vines to the trellis otherwise they will trail everywhere. You can just DIY this by tying some bamboo stakes together. 4. Hand-pollinate your cucumbers to ensure maximum yield and increase the number of cukes you get! You can do this by picking the male flowers and rubbing the stamen on the female flower's stigma - female flowers are easily identifiable by the tiny cucumber fruit behind their flower. You can also use a q-tip or makeup brush to pick up pollen from the stamen and deposit it on the stigma. This is especially important if you're growing indoors or an area where there are little to no pollinators. 5. Remove affected leaves as soon as they show signs of powdery mildew - there might not be as much air circulation and ventilation indoors which increases humidity and in turn, the proliferation of powdery mildew or fungus, so make sure you're constantly checking your cucumbers plants for signs of fungus to prevent it from spreading. 6. Harvest your cukes regularly to prevent your cucumbers vines from getting overloaded and collapsing.
