@v.vaalentine: There’s a pretty common sentiment among clients that if the meaning behind their tattoo is significant they will never end up regretting it. While that may often be true, it isn’t ALWAYS true- and in my opinion, it’s not the only valid reason to get a tattoo. The way I see tattoos are this: little vignettes of our lives, moving expressions of who we really are as people, snapshots of our hearts. We are never the same people day to day and in one moment we may feel entirely different than the moment before. My suggestion is to radically embrace this. Get a tattoo for the moment, because you thought it was silly and it makes you smile. Get a tattoo with your best friend that you never get to see. Pick something off the wall that you think is beautiful and speaks to your heart. While it can be fun to create really cohesive pieces and projects, I think there is too much pressure to “curate” and conform to what we feel should be our “aesthetic”. Sometimes, it’s okay just to get a tattoo because you think it looks nice. And when people collect in this way I feel like it creates the most beautiful sense of living art possible. With the guidance of your artist it is possible to do this in a way that honors cohesiveness and fluidity. So what do you think? Team planning or team impulsion?
