@meghannmcuniff: Trial began in Massachsuetts today (Monday, July 27) for a woman who killed her three young children. Lindsay Clancy is charged with murder for the strangulation deaths of her five-year-old daughter, Cora; three-year-old son, Dawson; and 8-month-old son Callan, who were killed on Jan. 24, 2023, in Duxbury. Clancy was being treated for postpartum mental health issues at the time. Her trial is receiving national attention, and it deals with serious mental health issues. If you or someone you know needs help, you can call or text the new three digit code at 988 to reach a trained crisis counselor. You also can visit 988lifeline.org or dial 800-273-8255 [TALK]. Judge William Sullivan in Plymouth County Superior Court is presiding over the jury trial, which is expected to last six to eight weeks. His clerk swore in the jury today and read the charges before he discussed the logistics of the trial. "To these indictments, the defendant at the bar pleads not guilty. For trial, places herself upon the country, which country you are. You were sworn to try the issues. If she is guilty, you shall say so. If she is not guilty, you shall say so, and no more. Members of the jury, hearken to hear evidence," the clerk said. Sullivan told the jury it's their duty "to determine whether the Commonwealth has proved its case against the defendant beyond a reasonable doubt, and that decision has to be based only on the evidence and the law that's presented here in the courtroom during the trial of this case." "The defendant has no burden to prove a lack of criminal responsibility. Criminal responsibility is a legal term. A person is not criminally responsible for her conduct if she has a mental disease or defect, and as a result of that mental disease or defect, lacks a substantial capacity either to appreciate the criminality or the wrongfulness of her conduct, or to conform her conduct to the requirements of the law," the judge said. "Your function is to determine the facts in this case, you are the sole and exclusive judges of the facts. You alone will determine what evidence to believe, how important any evidence is that you do believe, and what conclusions all the believable evidence leads you to." "You are going to have to consider and weigh the testimony of each and all the witnesses who will appear before you, and you alone will determine whether to believe any witness and what extent to which you do believe that witness. It's going to be your responsibility to resolve any conflicts and testimony that might arise during the course of the trial, and it's your duty to determine where the truth lies," he continued. Mister Mommie :
She begged for help, she was denied help. She did everything she needed to do and told everyone required of being told about her ideations. The prosecution is trying to throw out expert testimony to the clinicians on her case who dealt with her issues with her. Aka the people who failed her.

Did dad help do the dishes, laundry, cooking, watch the kids? Most likely not. On top of that she had to go back to work with 3 little ones. No wonder she lost it

Until you experience PPD or PPS please withhold your judgement. It is far too easy to say "I would never!" it is far harder to experience the unthinkable thoughts that justify horrific actions and spend the rest of your life knowing what you did. Those babies DID NOT deserve their lives to end the way they did. It is tragic and horrific. But what if... what if she did everything right? What if she sought help at every turn and was failed? What if he believed that she was ok? I will not defend her actions or the belief that there should not be punishment for the lives lost, I believe she should serve time. However, I also believe that she (and he) deserve compassion for the extraordinary losses that they will live with for the rest of their lives.

I don’t understand how a mother could put up a defense. If I killed my children, I would hope you would throw the book at me.

as someone who personally knows someone who had postpartum psychosis, she could have kept those kids alive. she just have honestly abandoned them with anyone and thay would have been better than killing them. she made that choice. she should be charged but be placed in a mental institution to do her time.

TikTok does a great job in exposing all the misandrists amongst us (and tbf the misogynists too) with how many will bend over backwards to defend a mother-turned-murderer.
