Open weight has a strong advantage in pricing. Closed source bundles their cost for training and inference, making the cost per token a lot higher. Open weight, means any major data center provider only needs to recoup inference cost. Open weight also provides the ability for quantization of these models, to be ran on less powerful hardware (and worse performance ofc).
