I grew up in a village in the northern part of Sweden. It was common, before an important birthday (such as turning 50), to get a note printed in the newspaper, informing people in the area that they didn’t want to be celebrated, and wouldn’t be at home that day. Otherwise any random distant acquaintance could turn up unannounced, expecting fika. I now live in the inner city of Stockholm. Turning up unannounced to someones apartment would be considered insanity.

Småland, genuinely feels like what my parents/grandparents describe Belgium to be in the ‘good old days’. I’m happy I settled down here, neighbours are genuinely lovely and I tend to find people to talk to which makes me happy 😊

I'm english but spent 6 years in Stockholm (that photo of Gamla Stan really hit me btw), and 3 years in Ånge, Västernorrland. I was lucky to experience two of the listed Swedens. I moved back home 3 years ago, but i miss so much of what Sweden has. Mostly, the stillness and silence of being by a lake at 23.30 on a mid june night. Jag saknar dig, Sverige. För altid.
