@l0rd_farclaud: just don’t want clothes to be the thing that keeps you from getting outside! if you’re fat and have any questions about how to get into outdoor spaces, i want to help :) @Old Navy @Thicket Adventure @Columbia1938 @COTOPAXI @Walmart @Halara #plussize #plussizeclothing #outdoorgear #Outdoors #clothing
Usually, I thrift Old Navy activewear, and honestly the seams on every single pair of leggings gotten always like unstitched themselves. Idk maybe I’m unlucky and also there sports bra bras are not like big size friendly. :/

The fact that we can’t just walk into an REI is such bs. Outdoor businesses pretend to be so progressive but in reality they’re so exclusionary.

I’ve also had good luck with Carhartt! SO durable and high quality. their size range isn’t as inclusive as I’d like it to be (typically stops at 2x-3x) but I’ve found that a lot of their stuff is pretty roomy so depending on the item the range can be a bit wider. also def on the pricier side, but worth the splurge imo. plus they have decent sales, and I’ve found a few things thrifting too!

For my fat comrades whose preferred flavor of outdoors-ing involves cold weather, I have had great experiences with Smartwool. Their wool base layers and socks are great and have kept my thin Floridian blood cozy even in the snowy mountains of Colorado. I’m a 26/28 in lots of brands, and I’m at the top of their size range, so they aren’t the MOST size inclusive, but they do make wool accessible to more folks than lots of other places.

prAna is amazing too. i posted in the wildlife career group on fb asking for recs and someone had a whole spreadsheet of things. this brand was repeatedly mentioned in the comments. finally splurged in a pair of their pants (they’re like $100, sometimes $70 on clearance at REI).

What about hiking boots? More weight = faster wear. So are there better brands to go with? Maybe with wider options and better on thicker calves and thighs? What about socks for wider calves?

Base layers at 32 degrees! I wear their base layer leggings as pants. Cheap. Lasts forever. In like 2019 they had the BEST leggings of all time but they stopped making them. But I have a ton of their stuff.
