Zoey LADA-LaCat :
Jackie is like one of the only teens that continued to act like herself for the most part and struggled the most to find her place/survive. Even if she had survived that night, I doubt she would have survived much longer, I think the reason the others survived was because they willingly sacrificed pieces of themselves/their humanity to survive (or eventually came around to it) Jackie never did. Jackie continued to hold onto humanity and preserve the society they came from, she questions everything, she questions Lottie, she calls out irrational behavior, she never gave into the wilderness. I don't think she would have joined in on the cannibalism if it started while she was still around, I think she would have been with the coach and would have been one of the biggest objectors to it, giving into cannibalism meant accepting civilization was gone (one of the reasons I think it had to start with her tbh, with her death, it showed how they fell apart even more socially, morally, and gave into the wilderness.) She was one of the ones who struggled the most with being stranded in my opinion and couldn't let go of the past/what she had before the wilderness. She failed to adapt and she tried her best to keep everyone civilized and still acted like a teenager socially. As the coach pointed out, she was the social glue, once she broke down and let it all consume her (sorry) everything fell apart even more, the group lost that sense even more, they lost the glue. Jackie had trouble adapting to their new reality and that made her mentally so much worse because she was used to being needed socially, she no longer felt useful. She couldn't hunt, she struggled with butchering the animals, foraging etc, she wasn't really pulling her weight like the others in the new society they were forced to form and she couldn't adapt, she never accepts the situation, she continues to talk about home, Jeff, spread teenaged gossip and drama/social groups and norms. She tried so hard to preserve herself/her identity while everyone around her started changing and redefining themselves around the wilderness. I saw someone say she served her purpose as a "mirror" for the viewers.
