CHILONGA BRIDGE PROJECT COMMENCES, BRINGING HOPE TO CHIREDZI SOUTH COMMUNITIES The long-awaited *Chilonga Bridge project* is now a reality, bringing renewed hope and relief to communities in Chiredzi South Constituency. Construction is currently underway on a modern, all-weather bridge across the crocodile-infested Runde River, a development that will permanently resolve decades of transport and safety challenges faced by local residents. For years, communities in Chilonga, Chikombedzi, and surrounding wards have endured life-threatening risks while attempting to cross the Runde River, especially during the rainy season. The absence of a safe crossing has hampered access to schools, clinics, markets, and other essential services, while also restricting economic activity and trade with neighbouring districts. The new bridge, being implemented under the Second Republic’s Infrastructure Development Programme, is a key enabler of Rural Development 8.0 and Vision 2030. It will facilitate year-round connectivity, reduce travel time, improve safety, and unlock agricultural and tourism potential in the Lowveld region. The project is also expected to create employment for local youth during and after construction. Government, through the Department of Roads, is working closely with local leadership and contractors to ensure timely completion of the project while maintaining high quality and safety standards. #Vision2030AReality #EDWORKS
