@walter86864: We’d walk the tracks for hours, no destination at all. He’d pick wild sunflowers growing by the rails and tuck one behind my ear, just to make me smile. He taught me how to skip stones across the lagoon, and we’d laugh so hard when mine sank straight down while his bounced three, four times across the water... On warm evenings, we’d sit on the old wooden platform and watch the trains pass. He’d point to the windows and say ‘Imagine all the people on there, going somewhere new. One day, we’ll go too.’ He’d hum songs I’d never heard, songs from the coast where he grew up, and his voice was softer than the wind,, He was the first person who ever asked what I liked, what I dreamed about, not just what I was supposed to do. He’d share his candy with me, save the last bite just for me. He’d wait for me after school, even if he had nothing else to do, just so we could walk home together Those days felt like they’d last forever.
