Accutane Survival Tips 💊 from a derm👩🏾‍⚕️ stitch @claaaarke thanks for sharing your journey💕 Accutane aka isotretinoin is an oral retinoid used to treat severe, stubborn acne.
As a BC dermatologist, here’s what I tell my patients to make their Accutane journey as smooth as possible 1️⃣ Dryness happens.
Everything dries out …lips, skin, nose, eyes, scalp.
💧 Vaseline or Aquaphor for lips (Cortibalm or Fix My Lips if that’s not enough).
💧 Saline spray for the nose.
💧 Lubricants wherever you get dry eyes, intimate areas, or scalp.
💧 Omega-3s help too, and LivSo’s great for dry scalp.
💧 A humidifier can also help with overall dryness especially during sleep. 2️⃣ Go fragrance-free.
Use gentle cleansers, moisturizers, deodorants, & laundry detergent. 3️⃣ Pregnancy prevention = essential.
Accutane has a high risk of birth defects, so pregnancy prevention is non-negotiable. 4️⃣ No waxing or lasers.
Your skin’s fragile and burns easily 5️⃣ Sunscreen!!! Especially lip SPF!
Prevents dark spots and lip discoloration. 6️⃣ Take it with a fatty meal.
A real meal! This helps the medicine absorb properly. 7️⃣ Track your symptoms.
Note any joint pain, mood, or vision changes so your derm can adjust safely. 8️⃣ Antihistamines can help.
Claritin may reduce purging and itching early on. ✨ Hope this helps you feel more prepared and confident on your Accutane journey!
