Correction: grad school is not for people who still aren’t sure. It’s for people who want to keep going. There is still something to be said about the material and curiosity

We need to bring back more "on the job" experiences. High School shadow week, not just a day where they show 1 or 2 cool thing, feed you lunch, and send you home. And college's shouldn't make it so hard to change majors.

She is spot on. I went to college to be a veterinarian. Worked hard, got good grades. Had a straight through mentality. Then I realized at the end of my junior year I didn’t want to be a veterinarian. In fact, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. Too late and too expensive to change majors so I got my undergraduate and came home. Got a job doing clerical work. Worked my way into finance and I love it still 35 years later. I sometimes wonder if I’d have the same outcome if I had studied finance in the beginning.

This was me with science. I loooved the study of science, but I got out there in the world and hated the actual practice of it. Thankfully, I’ve been able to take my love of science and pivot into a role working in laboratory software.

The law and legal world is great and can really be inspiring Unfortunately the people in power in large law firms are soulless and motivated by money and power rather than leadership and humanity

It would be nice to do, but this is a privileged way of thinking. People who have to take out loans or who need financial aid/scholarships or who are working themselves sick trying to pay for classes can’t do this. That’s the majority of people.

Me too! I was first in my family to finish 4 years of high school. I put myself through college by working and using scholarships and law school. I didn’t know any lawyers. I had an idea based on television that turned out to be so far from the truth. It didn’t take long to realize I hated being a lawyer. By then, it was too late because I had a mountain of law school loans. After 11 years, I left and went to work for a nonprofit serving youth in foster care. My income reduced dramatically, but I am so much happier. Turns out, I could’ve skipped law school and all that debt. Yes, I agree, experiences are critical before taking on significant student loans.
