groomsman/ groomswoman = who stands on grooms side.
bridesmaids/ brideman = who stands on brides side. its that simple. your brother is making this a big deal for no reason

He misunderstood. He thought you wanted him to be with you so people would know he was born female or so people would see him as feminine. But you truly just wanted both your siblings by your side. The ideal solution would be to ask fiancé to limit his side of the wedding party to best man and one groomsman so that way the only people beside bride are siblings and brother doesn’t see the choice as wanting him to be female/feminine but wanting brither at her side

not my real name :
my brother was my husband's groomsman. He still was standing for me. This thought process that being with the boys mean he's only there for the hubby is wild. She is the AH, and he is overreacting a little bit.

Weird for him to be so hung up on gender stereotypes tho.

Upcoming bride here! I asked a friend of mine who’s Trans female to male to be a bridesman and he was delighted! Definitely an insecurity thing that has nothing to do with you!

I get the sensitivity but if he is being invited to wear a suit to match the ladies, it literally is a completely normal thing. Sad. He clearly has a lot of trauma.

He is being over sensitive, she just wants her brother involved, this is perfectly reasonable

NTA: he’s clearly still insecure and it’s you’re wedding he doesn’t have to be you’re bridesman, but he’s being entitled by trying to be on he grooms side

i think he's not in a place where he feels confident enough in his new identity to be comfortable being a bridesman altho i see nothing wrong with it but kick him out of the wedding is too harsh. this is the kind of situation where everyone is probably gonna have to make concessions. respect that he doesnt want to be a bridesman, keep him at the wedding but he had to accept that he probably wouldnt be able to be a groomsman either due to number of people limited and that the fiance doesnt have to accomodate Jake over his own groomsmen (that probably been decided a long time ago too) 🤷

while I don't think it's transphobic of her to ask at all, I do think that after the brother presented his point of it making him uncomfortable and him not wanting to be a braidsman it should have ended at that

NTA such a cute idea I get why he refused but he has no reason to freak out on OP like that. She did nothing wrong and nothing in her post implied she was unsupportive of him and his identity

my cis bother was my maid of honor, but he wasnt battling transphobia and transitioning. let him stand on the grooms side - thats about to be his brother in law. dont overthink it.

having dysphoria over that is unfortunate, but understandable. OP didn't mean no harm, but once she understood the issue, she should've been apologetic and helped her brother to find a better solution

umm. my SIL had her best (gay) friend walk down & stand with us girls. He carried my niece, whom was the flower girl (we joked he was the ring bearer - there was no ring bearer; niece was a year old). We had a blast.
